FIC Ghana Engages INTERPOL and JICA on Strengthening Financial Crime and Anti-Corruption Capabilities

The Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), Ghana has held discussions with a delegation from INTERPOL and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as part of a scoping mission focused on strengthening efforts to combat financial crime and corruption.
The engagement, held on 9 September 2026, formed part of an INTERPOL/JICA initiative aimed at assessing current challenges, institutional priorities and operational needs in the fight against financial crime and corruption. The delegation included representatives of the INTERPOL Financial Crime and Anti-Corruption Centre (IFCACC), Japan Initiative International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the INTERPOL National Central Bureau in Accra.
During the meeting, the parties explored opportunities for enhanced technical assistance, capacity building and institutional cooperation to support the FIC in the effective discharge of its mandate. Discussions covered a range of areas, including access to specialised technical tools and equipment, capacity-building programmes in emerging areas of financial crime, virtual asset tracing and blockchain analysis, as well as opportunities to strengthen information sharing through INTERPOL platforms and programmes.
The meeting also considered professional development and training opportunities, technical assistance models and the use of digital tools to support public awareness and institutional effectiveness. The engagement forms part of broader efforts to strengthen collaboration between national and international institutions in addressing increasingly complex and technology-enabled financial crimes.
As a next step, the FIC will complete the relevant data collection survey to support the assessment of its operational and capacity-building needs and inform possible areas of future cooperation.
