The 13th Edition of the Open House Forum was organized by the Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA) was held in Ghana on May 9, 2022 at the GIMPA Law Faculty, Legon, Accra. The open house discussion presented an opportunity to educate the youth on potential recruitment schemes to join terrorist group, violent extremists and also engage in money laundering activities. In a speech read on behalf of the DG of GIABA, Justice Kimelabalou Aba, he noted that the rise in ML/TF in the region has the potential to drive away businesses and encourage the youth to take part in other social vices. The CEO also took turns to deliver the opening remarks and highlighted some of the schemes the FIC had received on the youth population particularly students on Suspicious Transactions Reports. About one hundred (100) participants were drawn mainly from the universities in the Accra Metropolis including Wisconsin University, Pentecost University, University of Professional Studies Accra, University of Ghana, Legon and Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). Also in attendance were the representatives from the various Regulatory/Supervisory Bodies, Law Enforcement Agencies, Civil Society Organizations and the Resident Representative of ECOWAS were present. |
