From June17–19, 2024 and October 23-24, 2024, the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) in collaboration with the giz organized a two (2) day training for seventy-six (76) Designated Non-Financial Businesses and Professions drawn from the accountancy, legal, real estates, gaming minerals sector.
The objective of the workshop was to;
- Sensitizing the DNFBPs on their obligations towards the fight against ML/TF/P.
- Red flags within specific DNFBP sectors and professions.
- Reporting suspicious transaction reports.
- Registration of DNFBPs on the go-AML portal.
- To implement effective mechanisms within their fields of businesses as the country prepares for the 3rd Round of Mutual Evaluation.
At the end of the workshop, participants raised issues including the anonymity of filing suspicious transactions reports and enquired about how the FIC could guarantee their protection after filing reports. They also expressed worry about how the youth are spreading cash on social media and requested that the FIC investigate their sources of funds.
